We’ve had a lovely few days of visiting with my uncle and aunt, Malcolm and Martha, who came over from London. It was wonderful to see familiar faces and to spend lots of quality time with them! We had the chance to have them for Shabbat dinner and to bake challah with Martha from her delicious recipe.
On Saturday, we went with them to the Guinness Storehouse, which is the number one visited tourist spot in Dublin. It was interesting to learn about the beer making process, the history of Guinness itself, and of course have a pint. When you first begin the tour, they show all the raw ingredients, like a big box full of barley you can touch, hops, yeast, and water in the form of a huge fountain. They also show many barrels.
Isaac really liked the colorful old advertising posters, as well as an old harp you could “play” (when you move your hands across the glass, it simulates playing the harp).
Probably my favorite part of the Guinness factory was the Gravity Bar up on the top floor. You can get your pint and enjoy the amazing panoramic views all across the city (probably some of the best views in Dublin).
Today (Sunday), we went with Malcolm and Martha to Howth, the little fishing town where we had gone for Isaac’s birthday. We visited the farmers market there and then ate a late lunch/early dinner at a wonderful restaurant called Aqua. It was all the way at the end of the pier and had incredible views of the sea. I couldn’t capture many of the views, but here are a few pictures with our visitors, who we loved getting to see:
